This blog entry brought to you by the letter Y, and the number 170.
Letter Y for the YOLO boat club, operated by the Mill Bay Marine Group. My buddy picked up a membership last year, so we been out and about in the Salish Sea trucking around on YOLO6.
The vessel-craft is an Antares 7, with a 170 L capacity fuel tank. We did some tactical near-real-time trip planning while out off Galiano, and decided to abort a portion of this trip. Essential to know such things as fuel capacity, and consumption rate while planning your trip!

Here’s part of the trip tracker, brought to you by Strava. I think the navigation system onboard has a complete chart of the trip that we can download, so I’ll check with the skipper on that.
As First Mate on these outings, I’ve got access to my own devices, so in this case asked my Garmin to track me as if I was on a bike. Yah, Strava was skeptical by the end of the trip, and told me so!
Not shown on the half-baked route-map above is the first part of the trip, eastbound out of the Port of Sidney Marina. Sunny skies, and smooth waters made for an excellent trip past South Pender, and out around the south end of Saturna Island. While approaching Saturna, we paid close attention to the protected marine zone for the southern resident Orca whales. No parking in the zone, and speed restrictions also in place.

Among the navigational achievements for this season was to safely pilot through Active Pass. There are much large boats than ours sailing through there all day, so we waited for an opportune time to enter Active Pass from the east end, and turn south to land in Miner’s Bay. Great to see so much room on the dock!
Check out some footage from the trip!
